This raucous North Carolina trio has been spreading fried chicken and rock and roll since their inception in 1983. Somewhere between The Cramps and B-52s, Southern Culture on the Skids (SCOTS) are beloved for their unapologetic swagger, rockabilly riffs, and trailer park kitsch.
The band’s 2021 release, At Home with Southern Culture on the Skids is a more intimate, acoustic-heavy record. Says singer/guitarist Rick Miller, “the album is comfort food for your ears. I wouldn’t call it mellow, but it sure is a friendly album.” After being pent up like the rest of us, we’re sure SCOTS are chomping at the bit to let loose on stage, and we could all use a bit rock therapy to shake our quarantine blues away.
