Strathmore's concert series at Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center continues with an amazing lineup of Artists in Residence.
Born in Washington, DC, Uasuf Gueye belongs to a family of Nguewel/Diali (oral historians and musicians) and began studying Manding and Wolof music at a young age. He is a dynamic djembe and dundun drummer and skilled instrument craftsman, and 21-key bala player, the latter which he learned from Cheick Hamala Diabate and other master artists of the Manding tradition.
Gueye has dedicated his life to being an ambassador of African culture to the world, driven by his passion for reconnecting people of the African diaspora to one another. His repertoire ranges from traditional 13th century songs to contemporary original compositions with blues and jazz riffs.
