(NORTH BETHESDA, MD)- This October, Maestro Marin Alsop returns to The Music Center with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra to kick off Strathmore’s multi-year examination of the environment through artistic expression. In galleries of the historic Mansion, Strathmore presents unique works of art made with repurposed materials, in two exhibitions: “Purpose-Repurpose!" and “Metalwork 2022” a juried artist collective working in enamel and metal. Both exhibitions are currently on view through October 29.
Prior to the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra performance, Strathmore encourages the community to delve deeper with a special discussion with sustainable development scholar Dr. Eve Bratman. She will present on the historical and current trends in Amazonian development, as well as talk about the dynamics of social and ecological change in the Brazilian Amazon.
Back in the Music Center, patrons can laugh till their sides ache with comedy duo, Colin and Brad and witness Farruquito “the greatest flamenco dancer of the century” (New York Times).
AMP, Strathmore’s upscale lounge in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose district, kicks off its fall season with a rare performance TWO PIANOS: Mark G. Meadows & James Fernando. Meadows and Fernando are Strathmore Artists in Residence Alumni.

Strathmore's concert series at Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center continues with Langston Hughes II, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Along with being selected as a 2022 Strathmore Artist in Residence, Langston has been a featured soloist for the United States Army Blues Orchestra and a Gold medal winner in NAACP's National ACT-SO Competition. Currently, Langston is a student at Howard University in Washington, D.C. studying Jazz Performance.
This free concert is part of Bloom by Strathmore, which strives to create community and expand access to the arts.

The 20th Biennial Juried Exhibition of work by Washington Guild of Goldsmiths (WGG) members will be on display alongside invited artists exhibiting non-jewelry works in metal. METALWORK 2022 will also include CHALLENGE 2022, a display of juried artworks priced under $202. Submissions were evaluated on technical mastery and creativity.
