(North Bethesda, MD) – Strathmore today announced its 2023-2024 Music Center season with 25 new performances featuring a diverse lineup of artists from all over the world. Tickets go on sale to the public on June 2 at strathmore.org.

“At Strathmore, we’re committed to partnering with new artists on their journey to building large audiences. This season, we’re excited to support musicians such as Fatoumata Diawara, Makaya McCraven, and Emmet Cohen at a time when their work is gaining momentum and traction,” says Artistic Director and Vice President of Programming Joi Brown. “It is also such a thrill that Terence Blanchard will be on stage playing his own music in a concert version of his opera Fire Shut Up in My Bones, which was the Met Opera’s first post-pandemic production and first by a Black composer. The April performance will also feature his core music collaborators, guest vocalists, and incredible multimedia.

In September, Itzhak Perlman and guests take the stage for a live presentation of the violin virtuoso’s Emmy Award-winning PBS special, In the Fiddler’s House. Gipsy Kings, led by co-founder Nicolas Reyes, returns to the Music Center in October, and November kicks off with family-favorite Air Play, a wordless circus-style adventure that fills the hall with laughter. The year ends with a busy December of holiday programming, including The Hip Hop Nutcracker and Strathmore Artist-in-Residence alum Seán Heely’s Celtic Christmas.

Next year, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis celebrates the centennial of drummer Max Roach, Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody spill marital secrets on Valentine’s Day, and Emmet Cohen brings his beloved streaming series, Live from Emmet’s Place, to the stage. At the end of April is Terence Blanchard’s “opera in jazz,” Fire Shut Up in My Bones, The Metropolitan Opera’s first work written by an African American composer.

Dance highlights throughout the season include the Romeo & Juliet-inspired Beyond Babel—featuring music from Billie Eilish, Mumford & Sons, Chance the Rapper, and more—as well as performances by Drum TAO and Ballet Hispánico.

Strathmore’s flexible programming schedule allows it to continually book performances throughout the year, capitalizing on artist availability and new touring acts. Additional 2023-2024 season shows will continue to be announced. Check the calendar for updates.
