Did you know that Washington, DC is the birthplace of drag in the US? The first person who described himself as "the queen of drag" was William Dorsey Swann, born enslaved in Maryland. He started hosting the earliest American drag balls in DC in the 1880s. His legacy joyfully continues today, as a long line of drag royalty has graced the stages of our region’s venues. Join us to celebrate drag in a conversation with three preeminent DC queens! Druex Sidora, Tiara Missou Sidora, and Sasha Adams Sanchez come together to explore the history of drag and discuss how this gorgeous culture enhances DC’s communities as a whole.
