Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee invite you to the event We are Martin, a tribute honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and heroes of The Civil Rights Movement featuring a special guest performance by three-time Grammy Award-nominated Sweet Honey in the Rock.
We Are Martin will emphasize that all of us, everyday people, have some of the same attributes ascribed to Dr. King within each of us. Determination, Perseverance, Compassion, and Courage; four qualities that Dr. King illustrated and lived in his role as the conscious of the nation and leader of the Civil Rights Movement. Through music, dance, and the spoken word, the program will help you relive some of the most significant events of the civil rights movement as well as focus on members of our community who too share these elements of character and leadership. The program aims for audience members to see these elements of character and leadership in themselves and be inspired to focus with laser clarity on improving our community wherever they find themselves. In doing so, the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lives on.
Additional musical and artistic performances from: Akhmedova Ballet Company, Ellen Gira, Ronnie Diamond Hoard, Glorystar Children’s Chorus Chamber Choir, Izis La Enfermera, Roland Gresham and NAACP Act-So Medalists: Brainy Akpala, Donovan Holt-Harrington, Khadija Ndiaye, and Siju Onadipe.
This event will not offer food or beverage service.
