In the Company of Trees celebrates trees growing in forests, jungles, parks, and backyards across continents and terranes. The world’s most extensive tree database lists over 73,000 separate species, from redwoods to baobabs—a testament to nature’s diversity and task management. Not only do trees supply us with oxygen and shade, but also energy, and as they age, they replenish the soil, making new life possible.
Artists, poets, and philosophers have been nourished from, and inspired by, the beauty, symbolism, and shelter of trees. Countless stories, legends, and odes memorialize their impact on life and on culture from one era to the next. And humans continue to contemplate the miracle of a seed that strains to meet the sky. Strathmore pays tribute to trees inside and outside this fall with this exhibition of artistry in textiles, paint, collage, and metal. From seasons to sanctuary, we honor the complexity and vitality of trees.
