For more than four decades, Sweet Honey in the Rock has worked to empower, educate, and entertain audiences around the world with their unmatched vocal talent and unwavering dedication to their mission. A performance ensemble rooted in African American history and culture, Sweet Honey in the Rock reaches out to audiences through the dynamic vehicles of a cappella singing and American Sign Language interpretation for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The Grammy-nominated ensemble is currently comprised of members Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, former Strathmore Artists in Residence Christie Dashiell and Rochelle Rice, and featured musician Romeir Mendez on upright acoustic bass and electric bass. Performing original material as well as timeless covers, the group delivers a concert experience that fuses world music, folk, gospel, hip-hop, jazz and R&B with a positive, loving, socially-conscious message.
