Know Before You Go

Strathmore is proud to partner with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as it welcomes the Year of the Snake with its third annual Lunar New Year program! Drawing upon beloved Asian traditions in a heartwarming celebration of music and community, this joyous concert experience is one for the entire family.

This year’s Lunar iteration is notable for expanding the concert program and festivities to The Music Center at Strathmore for the very first time. Strathmore and the Baltimore Symphony are partnering to co-present the Lunar New Year concert on January 28, 2025.

The evening begins with convivial lobby entertainment, followed by a performance that features four stellar artists: conductor Naomi Woo; host and narrator Dashan 大山 (Mark Rowswell); violinist Esther Yoo; and yangqin player Chao Tian, a former Artist in Residence (AIR) at the Music Center at Strathmore. Tian is the first AIR alum to join the BSO on the Concert Hall Stage.

The Baltimore Symphony is pleased to present a world premiere on these performances by Vietnamese-American composer Viet Cuong—a co-commission with The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at The University of Maryland College Park.

Preshow lobby entertainment includes performances from:

  • Student string ensemble from Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra
  • Korean Fan Dance by Korean Culture & Art of MD, Ju Sang Hee Dance Company
  • Chinese Waist Drum by Waist Drum of Greater Washington
  • Chinese Qipao Show by DMV Qipao Fashion Dance Group
  • Chinese Kungfu by Lin Zheng Emei Shaolin Kungfu Academy
  • Korean Hwagwanmu Dance by Korean Culture & Art of MD, Ju Sang Hee Dance Company
